The most common type of house fires starts in the kitchen. The most common kitchen fire is a grease fire. It can be started very easily and spread if not properly put out. *Do not put water on a grease fire, you want to cover it. Another common house fire is due to electrical wiring. It can be from faulty wiring or old wiring. During the cold winter months, a fire can be due to a heater. Portable heaters need to be used when someone is watching it closely or where it will turn off if overheating. Lastly, a major cause of a home fire is smoke-related. People falling asleep with a cigarette in their hand can cause a major house fire. If you are disposing a cigarette in the home, make sure it is properly extinguished before placing in a trash can or emptying the ashtray.
